Vicuña - Elqui Valley

Hello,

yesterday we took a Bus from La Serena to Vicuna in the Elqui valley.

This valley is one region of Chile producing "pisco", national drink from Chile (alcool from grape).

In Chile, the 13.12.2009 was the first round of presidencial election, almost every stores were closed and the stores were not allowed selling alcool drinks.

Due to the geographic and meteorologic (7 days of rain per year) conditions , Vicuna has a lot of observatories. At 9 in the night we started a tour to the small observatory Pangue. The sky in the south hemisphere is incredible... so many stars.
With telescope we could see a lot for example the Orion´s and Tarantula nebulosa, Andromeda´s, things that we only saw on the Nasa webpage.

Today we wanted to visit the Pisco producion in Vicuna "Capel", had a walk to the site but was unfortunately closed.

In the center of Vicuna we went to a restaurant and had our own degustation.

On the way back to La Serena we passed Puclaro, there is a very nice artificial lake with a lot of thermic wind!! The problem was how to get kite material (in Vicuna we did not see anything)... to do the next time.

  1. Hallo Maik and Emeric!
What a pity! You go to the famous wine-growing in Chile and cannot taste wine because of alcoholprohibitions that day.
But it's good to read that the trip has been an event for you because of visiting the observatories.
I always look forward to your photos.
    Regards from the family.
